Galveston, TX - December 07, 2006
Energy efficiency efforts at Dow took center stage today at the Texas Technology Showcase in Galveston, Texas. Near the conclusion of the two-day conference, Dow was recognized as one of six “Showcase Companies” that have demonstrated a significant commitment to the cause of energy efficiency. The Showcase also featured several Dow energy business leaders as guest speakers of the event.
Dow was chosen as a “Showcase Company” based on the Company’s leadership in energy efficiency, as demonstrated by its outstanding performance on its 2005 Environment, Health & Safety Goals. From 1994 to 2005, Dow reduced its global energy intensity by 22%, exceeding an aggressive corporate goal and cumulatively saving more than 900 trillion Btu. Dow has also received a number of other honors for its energy efficiency, including the prestigious Alliance to Save Energy “Galaxy Star of Energy Efficiency” award in 2006.
Several Dow energy business leaders shared best practices and new technologies during technical sessions on energy efficiency, water management, and development of in-situ sensors for the chemical industry. In addition, John Dearborn, Energy Business Vice President, delivered the closing plenary address on "Energy, Innovation and U.S. Competitiveness.”
“Dow is honored to be recognized for its aggressive efforts in energy efficiency,” said Dearborn. “As a science and technology company, we have a keen focus on innovation as it relates to product and process efficiency. The Showcase is a great forum for Dow and other industry leaders to share their successes and explore the contributions of technology to the overall solution.”
