Dow Foundation donates $50,000 to Cardiac Care Center at Brazosport Regional Health System

Lake Jackson, TX - June 22, 2007

The Dow Chemical Company Foundation today announced a $50,000 donation to the Brazosport Health Foundation to be utilized for the Cardiac Care Center at Brazosport Regional Health System (BRHS). This generous contribution will aid in a much-needed expansion, including the construction and equipping of a state-of-the-art cardiovascular operating room (CVOR).

“Nothing is more critical to the future of our community and our company than the health and welfare of those who live and work here, and this contribution reinforces Dow’s commitment to that principle,” says Bob Walker, Vice President and Site Manager for Dow Texas Operations. “The heart of every community is its health system and we are very proud to contribute to the efforts of the Brazosport Regional Health System to establish enhanced services and facilities in cardiac care for the citizens of southern Brazoria County.”

Approximately 270 people in the Brazosport area must undergo cardiovascular surgery each year and currently they must go elsewhere to receive this time-critical care.  As part of its mission to provide quality health care to the community, BRHS is expanding its cardiac care services to include open heart surgery.  The Dow Foundation’s contribution will go toward that effort.

“Being able to provide high-tech cardiac services, close to home, is essential in saving the lives of our community members who are affected by heart related healthcare needs,” said Dan Buche, President and CEO of BRHS. “Through the support of our local business partners, like The Dow Chemical Company Foundation, we will be able to greatly improve the quality of life for our community.”

Contributing to Community Success

BRHS currently performs diagnostic and interventional-quality cardiac catheterizations in the new cardiac catherization lab.  The addition of a CVOR, post-anesthesia recovery room, trauma center, and intensive care unit as well as specialized cardiac care health team will greatly expand the type of life-saving procedures available to citizens locally.  As the county’s population continues to grow, the need for critical healthcare services also increases, and expanded cardiac care is of paramount importance.

Charitable donations that help to address critical community needs such as this are part of Dow’s commitment to achieving the 2015 Sustainability Goal of Contributing to Community Success.

“Dow has made this contribution because of their belief in the need for high-quality healthcare in our community and BRHS's ability to deliver state-of-the-art cardiac care. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support.” said Patty Green, Executive Director of the Brazosport Health Foundation.
