The Dow Chemical Company announced today that Dennis H. Reilley, retired chairman and CEO of Praxair, Inc., and chairman of Covidien Ltd., has been elected to its Board of Directors, effective immediately.
Mr. Reilley brings to Dow an exceptional understanding of both the chemical and related upstream industries. He spent the first 15 years of his career with Conoco, followed by 10 years with DuPont, where he held leadership roles in a number of businesses before being appointed chief operating officer in 1999. The following year he moved to Praxair, Inc. as president, CEO and chairman.
“Dennis Reilley is a proven leader whose experience along the length of the chemical industry value chain will provide a priceless perspective as we pursue our vision to be the largest, most profitable and most respected chemical company in the world,” said Andrew N. Liveris, Dow’s CEO and chairman. “His solid reputation for financial discipline, and his clear commitment to driving innovation, sharpening customer-focus and maintaining sound governance, makes him a tremendous addition to the Dow board.”
In addition to his role as chairman of the global healthcare company, Covidien, Reilley is a board member of Marathon Oil Company, H. J. Heinz Company and the Conservation Fund. He is also a former chairman of the American Chemistry Council.
