Midland, MI - April 09, 2008

President Bush announced the appointment of The Dow Chemical Company’s Executive Vice President, Chief Sustainability Officer and Chief Information Officer Dave Kepler to the U.S. National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

The National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) is a coordinated effort of public and private sector entities that advise the President regarding the security of the cyber and information systems of the national security and economic critical infrastructures. The members of the council are appointed by the President and selected from private industry, academia, and state and local government and report through the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. The NIAC membership is comprised of key senior leaders from major sectors of the economy including banking and finance, energy, information technology, transportation and manufacturing.

“The appointment of Dave to the NIAC is a testament to his personal leadership and to that of our company’s efforts in driving safety and security,” said Andrew Liveris, chief executive officer and chairman of Dow. “It is an honor to have Dow and Dave recognized as leaders in this area due to our integrated approach to security throughout our operations.”

Dow takes a fully integrated approach to security by evaluating and addressing all aspects of security within every facet of our enterprise. This risk-based approach involves security at levels such as site and facility security, supply chain, product stewardship, personnel security, information and cyber security, as well as emergency and crisis management processes.

“This is a great honor for the men and women of Dow who make safety and security a priority in their daily work,” acknowledged Kepler. “It is a distinct privilege to represent their work on this important advisory council of key leaders from all critical infrastructure areas.”
