Innovative Insect Control Technology Earns Dow Another Green Chemistry Award

Midland, MI - June 26, 2008

Underscoring its commitment to sustainability, The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) recently received its sixth Green Chemistry Award since 1996. Dow AgroSciences LLC, a subsidiary of Dow, was presented with the 2008 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award for spinetoram – an innovative insect control technology derived from the fermentation of a naturally occurring soil organism followed by chemical modifications.

“It is an honor to be recognized again for creating products that adhere to the principles of green chemistry,” said Dow chairman and CEO Andrew Liveris. “This award illustrates that Dow and Dow AgroSciences continue to set the standard for sustainability by working with our customers to find solutions that also contribute to the preservation of our planet.”

The award, presented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on behalf of the White House, recognizes technologies that incorporate the principles of sustainable chemistry into chemical design, manufacture and use.

Previous Green Chemistry Awards won by Dow or related ventures’ products include a 100 percent carbon dioxide blowing agent for polystyrene foam packaging and the Sentricon™ System, which eliminates termite colonies while replacing the need for widespread applications of pesticides.
