The Dow Chemical Company completed today its initial inspection of sites owned or controlled by Dow or by Union Carbide in Louisiana impacted by Hurricane Gustav.
Dow’s site in Plaquemine, Louisiana, which continued partial operations through the storm, did suffer some damage, but it is not expected to curtail the site’s efforts to restart operations.
Union Carbide’s St. Charles Operations in Hahnville, Louisiana was safely shut down before the hurricane made landfall. The site did not have any significant structural damage to any of its facilities.
The start-up operations at both sites are currently being evaluated based on a number of factors, including raw material availability and logistics. Safety and status assessments will continue throughout the process.
Company sites in Texas were not impacted and continue normal operations.
