On June 3, Dr. Cathy Baase, global director of Health Services, participated in an advisory panel for the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) project chartered to meet President Obama’s request to them regarding workplace wellness implementation for federal employees.
As a result of President Obama’s recent meeting with a number of companies regarding workplace wellness programs, Baase was invited to join a small group of company experts to provide the OPM/OMB with strategic and practical advice on establishing a workplace wellness program for the federal government. During the session, Baase provided details regarding Dow’s health programs which are designed to improve the health and wellbeing of employees and the results achieved. She also discussed how our investment in health is part of our overall focus on Sustainability and aligned with corporate priorities. The OPM was especially interested in hearing about Dow’s approach as our approach is differentiated from the norm in several parameters of success.
“Receiving an invitation to share Dow’s model and experience in the area of health is a testament to Dow’s reputation in this field,” comments Baase, global director of Health Services. “Assisting the federal government team in their efforts to create an investment in health for their people is an important part of the health reform agenda for the US. We believe it is not only the right thing to do but also makes sound business sense. It is truly an honor to feature Dow’s Sustainability commitments to this leadership team.
The OPM and OMB will use the information obtained from this meeting and follow up conversations with the team to recommend program pilots with an anticipated launch of formal health programs for employees within a year.
