Dow Brasil’s efforts to promote diversity among its work force has been officially recognized by the São Paulo State Government. One of 24 companies chosen to earn this distinction in the first edition of the recognition, Dow received the “São Paulo’s Diversity Seal” from the State Governor, José Serra, in a public ceremony held on August 18, at Bandeirantes Palace, in São Paulo. The award was created by the State Government in order to honor and promote structured programs increasing diversity - nationality, gender, age, language, race, religion, disability or sexual orientation - state-wide.
"Respect for people and integrity are core values that drive Dow to create a culture that nurtures inclusion and diversity. In an environment where the Human Element is key to success, diversity is reflected within the management practices of the Company," says Lia Azevedo, HR director for Dow in Latin America.
Diversity is a key pillar for Dow to create a people-centric performance culture, one of four essential elements to the Company’s long-term strategy. For the past years, Dow has taken aggressive steps in order to promote diversity internally, such as increased the number of women in leadership positions, developed programs focused on racial inclusion, recognized homosexual rights by including partners as benefits dependants and hired and developed professionals with special needs.
During the ceremony, the state governor said that companies that proactively fight against prejudice and promote social responsibility are role models to be followed by the organized society. In that regard, this recognition by the São Paulo State Government underlines the results of more than 50 years of commitment and investments in Brazil. Dow has grown to be the third largest chemical company, with 2,400 employees operating in country and has earned 12 consecutive awards as a Best Place to Work.
