NATREON Oils Help Cut "Bad Fat" From Diet

Natreon canola oil

"Want a side of fries with that?" That’s a question that causes many people to shudder, especially when fighting the battle against fat. Alarmed by growing obesity and backed by new research, recent U.S. government dietary guidelines are calling for reduced saturated fat and zero trans fats in our diets. As a result, restaurants, food manufacturers and consumers are taking a serious look at healthier alternatives — such as NATREON™ canola and sunflower oils from Dow AgroSciences1.

Widely available to the food service industry under various brand names, NATREON oils are fast becoming a natural first choice. They:

  • Are virtually free of trans fat and related cholesterol problems — trans fat raises bad low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and depresses good high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, increasing the risk of coronary heart disease. Plus, research shows that trans fat is linked to the onset of type 2 diabetes and other health risks.

  • Have the lowest saturated fat content of any vegetable oil — and only half the content when compared with olive oil.

  • Provide a welcome source of good unsaturated fat and Omega-3 fatty acids, which can provide heart-healthy benefits by lowering blood cholesterol and triglycerides. Choosing "good" fats is considered just as important as eliminating "bad" fats.

  • Offer stability and a longer shelf life without trans fat, unlike hydrogenated vegetable oils. This makes NATREON ideal for packaged foods such as baked goods and snacks, and for high-heat applications such as frying.

  • Non-GM — NATREON oils come from plants developed through conventional breeding techniques and are not genetically modified.

"To meet dietary guidelines and consumer concerns, manufacturers are taking steps to replace hydrogenated oils with trans-fat free oils such as NATREON," said Pablo Ilarregui, oils channel manager, Dow AgroSciences. "We are excited to offer a solution that meets a very critical health need not just in the U.S., but around the world."

Living. Improved Daily. — with cooking oils that make the foods we love healthier.
