Dow Automotive Systems is introducing it's third generation BETAMATE™ toughened structural adhesive for body in white (BIW) design. Until now, previous generations of adhesive solutions from Dow Automotive Systems had been primarily characterized by their high performance with regard to mechanical properties. The third generation of BETAMATE structural adhesive solutions differentiates itself through its special process integration properties. This enabled Dow Automotive Systems to meet future requirements of vehicle manufacturers which are shifting from adhesive performance towards more efficient integration into existing production processes.
Improved process integration is achieved essentially through increased temperature stability, which affects the following process areas:
- Shelf life: increased to up to 10 months, thus enabling optimum logistics concepts
- Processing: improved and more constant rheology over temperature and time, thereby enabling better processing
- Maintenance effort: High temperature resistance allows maintenance efforts to be reduced, cleaning processes to be optimized and overall costs to be lowered.
A comprehensive analysis and optimization of the individual adhesive components made it possible to improve temperature stability. This new generation of BETAMATE technology is available now, and can be used with all epoxide-based structural adhesives of Dow Automotive Systems.
