Saginaw, MI - May 31, 2005
For students who wonder whether to take easier classes to earn high grades or take tougher classes that better prepare them for life and careers after school, the decision is getting easier as 49 students from Saginaw who made the tougher choice are being honored for their ambition. The 2005 Michigan Scholars Breakfast will recognize students who have successfully completed a course of study that will prepare them for post secondary education and careers.
Michigan Scholars piloted a program in the Saginaw Schools to encourage students to commit to the course of study that is more rigorous than required to graduate from High School. The breakfast honoring these outstanding students will be Tuesday, May 31, 2005 at The Dow Event Center. The breakfast will start at 7:30 am.
There are 49 students from Saginaw who have successfully completed a course of study that includes 3 math, 3 science, 3 social studies, and 2 foreign language credits. The Michigan Scholars receive special recognition for their academic achievements during high school and upon graduation.
The Michigan Scholars philosophy is based on the belief that it is better to pass an academically challenging course than it is to receive a higher grade in an easier class. The Dow Chemical Company and The Saginaw News are co-sponsoring the pilot program and the breakfast.
