Dow has once again allocated $40,000 for community service projects in Fort Saskatchewan and area as part of its Community Grants Program. This program encourages local organizations and non-profit groups to submit funding proposals that help to foster sustainable communities and support community initiatives and projects.

"The Community Grants Program gives us an opportunity to support smaller, community based projects that might not otherwise fit our community investment criteria," said Robert Lacroix, site leader, Dow Western Canada Operations. "The continuing success of this program indicates an obvious need in the community for contributions focused on smaller, community projects."

A maximum of $10,000 will be awarded per submission, however projects requiring less than $10,000 are encouraged to apply. Short-term projects with an emphasis on visible improvements are being sought. To qualify, organizations must have a registered charitable number, be a municipal or government agency, or be a non-profit organization that meets the criteria. Funding proposals must also have a Dow employee or retiree as the sponsor for the non-profit organization applying for the community grant.

All applications are due August 1, 2005 and will be reviewed by a committee comprised of both Dow and community representatives. The committee will select the successful applicatns by mid September.

Since the program's inception in 2001, Dow has contributed more than $183,000 to local organizations and projects through the program.
