Midland, MI - November 21, 2006
Dow Michigan Operations and Dow people at other non-manufacturing sites in Midland will kick off the next phase of the global “Drive To Zero” safety campaign during the last week of November, 2006. The next phase of the award winning Drive To Zero movement is aimed at all Dow employees and Dow contract employees here in Midland. The program with the theme of “Recommit” extends or expands many of the safety awareness building initiatives launched during 2005.
On November 21, 2006, Dow will mail to all of its employees homes the “Drive To Zero Vigilance Award”. The package with the award will contain a letter from David Dupre, site leader for Michigan Operations, while people who work in non-manufacturing locations will receive a letter from David Graham, Global Environment Health and Safety vice president for Dow. The Drive To Zero Vigilance Award is to remind all Dow people that the company expects zero accidents and zero excuses. There will also be a new, yellow badge hanger in the kit. The new badge hanger will signal everyone that the person wearing it has recommitted to safety at Dow. In early 2007, the Drive To Zero Recommit program will be introduced around the rest of the Dow world.
Awards For Safety Performance
The next phase of Drive To Zero includes a feature where Dow people in Midland can nominate each other for safety awards at three, progressive levels. The requirements for winning an award at Michigan Operations and at the non-manufacturing sites are slightly different, but the reward levels are the same.
The awards consist of a special badge hanger for each level of performance which will be a visible symbol of recognition of employee safety contributions. They will also reward employees the next time they put gas in their cars. The bronze level award includes a bronze colored badge hanger and a $10.00 gas card, the silver award has a silver colored badge hanger and a $25.00 gas card and the gold award which includes a gold colored badge and a $50.00 gas card. All the gas cards are redeemable at Speedway. Employees will nominate each other through the Dow Intranet site.
Keep Driving To Zero
Drive To Zero has become the global standard for Dow employees around the world. “The whole Drive To Zero effort began here in mid-Michigan,” said David Dupre. “We are very pleased that the next phase of Drive To Zero begins here too.”
