Midland, MI - February 19, 2008
The Dow Chemical Company announced today that it will collaborate with Honor Flight Inc. on a second veterans trip to Washington, D.C. Between 75 and 100 Dow retirees, who are World War II Veterans, will be flown to Washington, D.C., on May 21 to see the memorial that was built in their honor.
In addition to the WWII Memorial, the group will visit the Marine Corps War Memorial (Iwo Jima), the Vietnam War Memorial, the Lincoln Monument and the Korean War Memorial. They will also receive a police escort through Arlington National Cemetery and lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Dow employees, who are military veterans, will serve as guardians on the trip.
“We took 92 veterans and more than 40 employee veterans on this trip in November, and we promised to do our best to make it happen again,” says David Dupre, vice president of Dow’s Michigan Operations. “This is the least we can do to honor these individuals and their comrades who sacrificed so much to secure our freedom.”
“Dow was the first corporation to step forward and partner with Honor Flight in this way,” said Erwin “Earl” Morse, founder of Honor Flight. “There are more than 3,000 Veterans on our national waiting list today. We need more companies like Dow to fund future flights, so these Veterans get the chance to see ‘their’ memorial and receive the recognition they deserve.”
