Midland, MI - October 03, 2005
Effective November 1, 2005, the Dow Emulsion Polymers business is increasing the prices of Styrene/Butadiene (S/B) Latex and Styrene/Acrylate (S/A) Latex products sold into the paper industry in the United States and Canada. All S/A and S/B latex prices will increase by US$0.05/lb (dry).
Additionally, Dow is increasing the prices of Styrene-based Solid Plastic Pigments and Hollow Plastic Pigments sold into the paper industry by US$0.08/lb (dry) in the United States and Canada.
"We continue to experience unprecedented escalation in raw material and energy costs. The combined impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita have put additional pressure on critical petrochemical feedstocks and energy prices," said Donna Babcock, North American marketing manager for paper. "In addition, disruptions to the transportation infrastructure in the Gulf Coast have further constrained supply of key raw materials needed to manufacture our products.
"We must implement these increases quickly in order to offset the rising costs of manufacturing and transporting our products, so that we can remain a strong and reliable supplier to our customers."
