Dow Strengthens Offering to Rubber Industry With Continued Investment in Product Innovation, Customer Support Capabilities

Midland, MI - October 11, 2006

Seeing significant opportunities in the rubber industry, The Dow Chemical Company continues to invest in product innovation and global capabilities that provide custom mixers and product manufacturers with significant benefits.

“As the leading supplier to the rubber industry, Dow is committed to leveraging its material science expertise and world-leading resources to provide customers with superior service, product performance and economic benefits,” says Dave Kyle, Dow Sr. Automotive Market Manager, North America, The Dow Chemical Company.

Unmatched Product Innovation

Dow offers a wide range of products that deliver superior performance in rubber applications. Many of these products are produced using Dow’s proprietary INSITE™ metallocene catalyst technology, which makes it possible to control molecular design with precision and predictability to provide improved product performance and processing benefits.

Reacquiring its product assets from the DuPont Dow Elastomers joint venture in 2005 also provided Dow with two strong additions to its portfolio of products for the rubber industry – NORDEL™ IP and NORDEL™ MG Hydrocarbon Rubbers, and TYRIN™ Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) resins.

“The addition of these products significantly strengthened our proven portfolio of industry-leading products,” says Kyle. “Using our unmatched material science expertise and capabilities, we will continue to innovate with new products that deliver the exact characteristics required to meet specific needs of the rubber industry.”

The latest example of Dow’s product innovation is NORDEL™ MG NDR 46100.00 Hydrocarbon Rubber. Introduced today at the ACS Rubber Mini-Expo, this product is a low-ethylene, medium-ethylidene-norbornene (ENB), high-viscosity grade. These characteristics make the new product ideal for peroxide-cured building profiles, hoses, bicycle tire tread, automotive weatherstrip and other rubber products that require superior performance in low temperatures.

World-Leading Customer Support Capabilities

Dow also continues to commit people, processes and assets worldwide to help address the needs of the rubber industry. The Company is back-integrated in raw materials, offering customers reliability of supply, product quality and consistency and greater ability to manage the supply chain and avoid disruptions. In addition, Dow continues to invest in global assets that benefit customers through proximity to major markets where customers are doing business, and seamless integration of services for quick response and ease of doing business.

“There is no other company that can match Dow’s market commitment, broad portfolio and history of product innovation – all focused on helping our customers succeed, and being there when they need us,” says Kyle.
