Cary, NC - December 17, 2007

UCAR Emulsion Systems (UES), a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, is increasing the off-list prices on its emulsion products and rheology modifiers.

Effective January 1, 2008, for all North American customers, UES will increase the price by US$0.03 / wet pound for all products in all chemistries, including acrylic, vinyl acrylic, styrene acrylic, and styrene butadiene latexes, EVOCAR latexes, NEOCAR polymers, and UCAR POLYPHOBE rheology modifiers.

This increases applies to all market segments, including architectural and industrial coatings, construction products, adhesives and sealants, and traffic coatings, and is in addition to the previously announced increase effective December 1, 2007.

This action is precipitated by escalating natural gas prices as well as record prices for oil, methanol, ethylene and propylene, all of which are significant raw materials for these latex products.
