Horgen, Switzerland - February 27, 2008
Effective March 1, 2008 or as contract terms allow, Dow Europe polystyrene prices will increase by 75 Euro per metric ton for all general purpose and high impact STYRON™ polystyrene resins and STYRON™ A-TECH™ advanced technology polystyrene resins.
The high energy and feedstock costs (linked to the unprecedented price of oil) are having a negative impact on Dow’s polystyrene margin. Peter Whitmore, Product Director for Polystyrene (for Europe and IMEA) stated: “in the past few months, our Polystyrene prices have fallen very short of covering these costs. Raw material prices have continued to rise in February to the extent that we need to substantially increase prices in March 2008 to recover a minimal margin”. Based on these conditions Dow Europe GmbH is announcing a price increase across the European, Middle Eastern, African and Indian regions.
