The Dow Chemical Company announced today that it will permanently close its Polystyrene plant in Bilbao, Spain, during the third quarter of 2009.
"The closure of the Bilbao plant was a very difficult decision for Dow to take, but it reflects the reduced demand and depressed margins for Polystyrene in Europe," said Peter Whitmore, Business Director for Styrenics. "Dow will increase the operating rates of Dow’s remaining European Polystyrene plants to maximize the continuity and quality of supply to the customers. The Dow local representatives will remain close to our customers during this period."
